About the area
The Royal Burgh of Tain is a small but ever expanding town with a population of around 3500 located on the Dornoch Firth. The town was granted its Royal Charter in 1066 by King Malcolm III and notable buildings in the town include Tain Tolbooth and St Duthus Collegiate Church and the local museum.
Tain has something for everyone with a wide variety of shops and sports and recreation clubs including tennis courts, a bowling club and our great golf course. There is also a very good choice of places to eat out and top class hotels and guesthouses.
A must visit whilst in the area is The Glenmorangie or Balblair Distilleries where you can sample the local 'dram' with tours available.
A couple of miles out of town the Tain Pottery is very much worth a visit and also Highland Fine Cheeses is highly recommended.
